Horses listen if you whisper!

Hello to all fellow horse lovers and lovers of knowledge! Here is a little about me:

I have been riding and loving horses all of my life. As my mother says, I was riding even before I was born (my mother continued to ride her mule in the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming even while she was pregnant). At the age of two, I was horseback on my own, and began competitively riding eventing horses and showing at the age of 12. In 1997 and 1999, I qualified for the North American Young Riders Championship at the One Star and Two Star levels with my friend, Charlie Horse. This extremely talented and challenging horse is now retired after eventing for eight years, and spending four years at the intermediate level.

In my years of competitive riding and playing with many other horses, I learned many things including how to make a horse run away with you. After mastering this, I had many lessons in which the trainer would tell me that I needed to try a different bit. I eventually had an entire closet full of bits, and not one of them “FIXED” my horse. During one particular lesson the instructor said, “The more the bit the less the rider.", but when I asked the instructor how to get my horse to stop, he had no specific answer. I later realized that the struggles I was going through were due to a lack of communication.

Thank goodness for Pat and Linda or I would still be wondering what my horse was saying! All good riders and horses have the same basic foundation of good communication. Once you have developed a language you can both understand , you and your horse can play any game you want, whether it be a competitive sport, or trail riding. If you are brave enough to “Take the time it takes, so it takes less time,” you will enjoy every moment of the journey! “Whisper” to your horse by learning his language!

I am dedicated to learning all I can about playing with horses, and passing on this knowledge to my students. I would be a wonderful teacher if I could make my students better than me!!! I am a certified 2 Star Parelli Instructor. I am also currently pursuing my USDF and USEA instructor certifications as well as always expanding my foundation horsemanship!

Learn to whisper to your horse, because the strongest rope in the world is the horse’s mind! The most valuable award you can win is your horse’s heart.
